GLOBAL GVBACK 1HR SERVICE PROJECTS
GVBACK is a global movement that encourages individuals, organizations, and companies to give back 1-hour of their time to a service project that benefits their local community.
MISSION & HISTORY
GVBACK launched in 2017 as an effort to give back 1-hour each year to local community efforts and projects.
The movement was expanded to multiple days to accommodate more organizations and projects. In 2018, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade—Los Angeles, worked with fellow office building tenants Amazon Studios, Oracle, Naughty Dog, AMC Networks, JUCY, New Zealand Tourism, American Airports Corporation, and Bay Club to create care packages to be distributed by The People's Concern, one of Los Angeles County's largest social service agencies. Two additional GVBACK days were organized to continue to support The People's Concern work with Los Angeles' homeless population.
The care package idea started as an effort by LA music artists and producers. They created "blessing bags," plastic bags filled with hygiene products and handwritten notes, to give to homeless people they would encounter around Los Angeles.
In May of 2019, inspired to bring awareness to ending violence towards people of faith and other social justice issues, groups of New Zealanders and their friends from around the world came together to develop 1-hour local service projects. Individuals and groups across the globe donated 1-hour of their time to their communities to inaugurate the first Global GVBACK Tuesday.
Global GVBACK 2020, hosted by the town of Augusta, Kentucky, invited communities from around the world to give back 1-hour of their time to a local project or cause that benefits their community. Held the week of May 24-30, individuals, groups, and companies were encouraged to register their project on our online platform at no charge. With built-in features to help you share your event, raise awareness and lead a social media campaign, together we'll make the world a better place one hour at a time.
